Carolus Dux is Latin for "Duke Charles" and most often refers to the Swedish king who later became Charles IX. Duke Charles (Karl IX): Before he was crowned king (Carolus Rex) in 1604, he was known as the Duke of Södermanland, Närke and Värmland. During this time he used the title Carolus Dux and led the rebellion against his nephew, King Sigismund.
